It's possible that they made it against TOS, at the same time they removed /roll from towns. People were rigging the /rolls and stealing everyone's money.

That's what I though happened, though I haven't looked it up lately.

Edit: This is the closest I have so far.

Get over it. It's 8 months since you're whining about it.

It was a bad idea giving significant ingame advantages to account collectors on a monthly bases for doing absolutely nothing. I'm sure glad it's dead.

People should read the OP to avoid looking like idiots.

Anyway, this is from back when it happened, looks like it was in the Rules of Conduct, not the TOS. Doesn't appear to be there anymore though, so who knows?

Wow this doesn't look even a little bit like real world trading!
The XTH wasn't gambling in the sense that you never risked anything. What OP is suggesting is gambling and effectively opening the way for RL trading.

"I swear, it was done through XTH, he bet that [guild] would goldcape and won".

I'm well up for instaban on a mass scale.

^ this.

Besides, since ANet already admitted that it was going to take a lot of effort to rectify the mess that was XTH, I would rather see them devote the effort elsewhere - on time skill balancing or some extra content as an example. To me this would be time better spent.

XTH was nice while it lasted but, as with everything, gotta move on

Well, obviously you can see how well they're spending that time. With the lack of content being added, and surely you've been paying attention to the threads about the "impending" skill balance.

Kinda makes you wonder where their time is going. Personally, I'd be playing solitaire.

Seriously though, I don't see how players asking for something they WANT back is so incredibly unreasonable. Sure, they have our money already and can do whatever the hell they want regardless of what we want, devs generally want to keep their players happy. Especially when they have cute little things like sequels "around the corner."

People seem to forget there is a skeleton staff working on GW1 these days. There is work being done (Id think doing all those guild hall henchies took a fair amount of programming) - not the amount we'd all like I know, but its an almost 5 year old game with no monthly fee.....we all want something for nothing, but it doesnt happen often in RL...

I love how no one actually reads the OP :/

I wasn't suggesting that Anet should do this, this isn't about restarting the XTH (it's dead), I don't see how RL trading could impact this (it's easier for them to bot and sell), etc., etc.

Meh, this is probably due for a /close since no one wants to discuss on topic :/

This would only work if Billiard was the man holding all the money. He is the most trusted player in the game after all. Though he'd probably take a cut of the keys for his time.

The biggest problem with the issue of a "new XTH" is the fact that the logistics of it would be daunting. Let's say that 100 people signed up for the 1st month, and half bet 5 Z-keys that [rawr] would win 1st. If they were all correct in that, each person would expect to get more than the 5 z-keys they added to the pool. And only giving 2 z-keys for a correct guess wouldn't be the greatest gift for guessing #1 correctly. There would come a point where you have to give prizes to people and you would have no keys left. Then what? Ectos? Black Dye?

With the XTH, we won TRP so we could buy z-keys, OR, we could buy PvP armors, PvP weapons, etc. That most people bought Z-keys was a given. I know I did my share. But that many Z-keys on the market at once killed the price. I don't think it's a good idea to ressurect that kind of madness. Now, I use z-coins to get z-keys, and I still manage to get a lot. For me, Zaishen Coins are the new XTH

1) Would be a logistics nightmare for anyone to create a website to handle all the info, calculate wins/losses, and HOLD THE KEYS!
2) Would require more people to lose keys than win them if ANYONE was to win.... unless you can hack the game and create keys out of nowhere.
3) Would be easy to exploit.

The only feasilbe situation that I can see running something like this would be guilds/alliances. And they would need to restrict it to their members only. This would allow the quantities to be small enough for someone to handle, as well as TRUST the people involved. However, it would still require keys to be donated unless more people lost than won.

the only possible way to run it is to create a pvp guild dedicated for the goal. that guild would have to farm the keys on their own and then give them out to the winners. the predictions would have to be public and somehow point-based. the person with the most points wins the top prize, like 30 keys; the second place is awarded with 20, the third with 10 (the numbers may vary, used just for the simplicity). if two or more people would achieve the same number of points, the one who posted the prediction earlier wins.

that would require a high-end pvp guild to become benevolent and wish to run such an event for the sake of community's fun. i don't believe it's possible, but it would work. i don't see any other way that it might run smoothly.

My name is Commander Shepard and this is my favorite forum on Guru.
Seriously though, I miss the XTH, but that is not a good idea. That would be a logistical nightmare.

What others have said, good idea in theory, not workable in practice due to trust/time/ energy required etc.

I know here in Arizona, there are strict rules about any form of real cash gambling ((although office pools go on, they arent really supposed to by the letter of the law). How virtual item gambling is concerned Im not sure, but I guess anet would sooner nip it in the bud than to find out later they had broken some rule in Luxembourg or similar..

Probably the only method is to do it within a guild/alliance.

Think about it. A community run betting system based on odds and the positions of winning guilds. We could have a buy-in fee of around 10-20 zkeys and then do pay-outs the first of every month.

I don't have any specific parameters or anything in mind, but who out there would support this? Is it a good idea? And if so, how do you think it should work?
I wouldn't support it so /not signed

People would lie steal and cheat anyway without some form of official program doing things like XTH used to. I'm glad it's gone myself.
